Sa malayong bayan siya’y nagsikhay
Pangungulila ang naging kapalit
Nalunod sa sariling pighati’t lumbay
Sa payapang bundok siya’y nawalay
Pikit matang nilisan ang kanyang paslit
Sa malayong bayan siya’y nagsikhay
Dahil walang kaagapay sa buhay
Tiniis ang lahat ng panggigipit
Nalunod sa sariling pighati’t lumbay
Isang malamlam na gabi, siya’y hinalay
Ng kanyang among walang kasinglupit
Sa malayong bayan siya’y nagsikhay
Binusalan ang bibig, ginapos ang kamay
Kaluluwa niya’y napuno ng galit
Nalunod sa sariling pighati’t lumbay
Isang gabing mapanglaw, siya’y naglakbay
Ngunit isa nang malamig na bangkay
Sa malayong bayan siya’y nagsikhay
Nalunod sa sariling pighati’t lumbay

kapatid sa panulat!
The literary construct oozes with tradition which is, I believe, the main inspiration for the piece. It is nice to know that not all contemporary writers explore and 'nahihiraya' with the free verse which is mostly free and no verse. With the piece, tradition hooned the writer to the traditional discipline, however, the challenge for any creative writer, either in poetry or fiction, is to create something 'new'...something which other writers in the tradition haven't done before.
To clear the 'tradition' that I numerously mentioned, there is the Art for Art's Sake and Art for Society and clearly, the Dandannag follows the latter.
There, a brief literary criticism.
Ipagpatuloy lang ang pagsususlat.
P.S.
I learned that even poems undergoes several revisions before it can achieve its final form...whatever it may be.
